Why Do Loan Officers Keep On Moving To New Career Opportunities

It seems like it is the norm that loan officers move from one company to the next. Loan officers realize that changing from one company to the next as a loan officer, the downtime is at least three or more months before you are stabilized. This is a story of how it took me almost ten years to find my final home (I believe).

I believe in full transparency. As a manager and former owner of a multi-million dollar business, you cannot demand respect. Respect cannot be demanded or bought. No money in the world with give you respect from others. Your position and job title at the workplace does not earn you respect. Respect is trust from your peers.

Do We Have Poor Leadership In The Mortgage Industry?

Whether it is on the home front or at work, people naturally judge your behavior, demeanor, work habits, what you say, how you say it, what you promise and do you deliver, humbleness, integrity, honesty, and temperament.  Once respect is lost, trust and faith are lost.  If you hold a position of leadership, whether a supervisor, team leader, manager, Vice President, President, and/or CEO, you are the foundation of your team, group, and/or company. Everything you say, things you promise, decisions you make, policies you implement, and any words spoken get scrutinized. Once words are spoken, you cannot take them back.

Is There Such A Thing As Great Career Opportunities In The Mortgage Industry?

The bottom line is that most mortgage companies with a high turnover rate are due to a poor leadership foundation. If you build a home on a faulty foundation, it is not IF the home will collapse but WHEN. Same with leadership. No matter how large or small a mortgage company is, if the CEO/President does not have a solid leadership foundation based on faith, trust, and integrity, then the organization has a faulty foundation. A faulty foundation in leadership from the CEO will trickle down in a faulty chain reaction from upper-level management on down the food chain. This creates a dysfunctional system where the structure of the business is broken.

If general orders and policies have been set, everyone in the organization needs to follow starting with the CEO. Once you make excuses and bend the rules, you are breaking the system and the foundation has now started cracking.  From my experience and observation, I believe most mortgage companies have a dysfunctional system that stems from the top. This is the reason why loan officers are not happy and are looking at other mortgage companies to find a stable, functional structure, and solid leadership.

People who know me, know me as a straight shooter and tell it the way it is. I can only be professional for five minutes. I do not believe in lying, cheating, or stealing. Do you remember when your mother told you not to take things that do not belong to you? I would not want anything that I have not earned or worked for. I do not want charity or things that I do not belong to me. After 5 minutes, the WTF comes out. I cannot pretend to like someone I don’t respect or care for.
